Artist's Statement
For a lot more years than I would care to acknowledge, I have been taking photographs and interpreting the images of what I have captured on film. My favorite subjects reflect my interest in nature and the out-of-doors. I also like to connect with the past by photographing objects which have been left by people, for instance, the fence in Edge of the Forest or the locomotive which worked in the woods near Bear Harbor back in the early 1900's.
Although I experiment with many photographic techniques, somehow I always come back to classic Black and White to express myself. Although I have been working with digital imaging, going back to the darkroom and printing black and white enlargements is satisfying to me. Because I have many shoeboxes of color slides in my closets, I learned to create Polaroid transfers using a Daylab printer. As well as enjoying making the original transfer, hand coloring is a treat especially on a stormy winter day.
My equipment tends to be low tech - older model Pentax SLR's, a Fujica 690, an Olympus point and shoot, two plastic Holgas and a couple of pinhole cameras.
Enjoy! Nancy Barth
