Montgomery Woods

Located between Ukiah and Comptche, The Montgomery Woods Preserve is the most extensive old growth Redwood forest left in Mendocino County.

Whomever it is that determines such things has declared that one of the trees in Montgomery Woods is the tallest Sequoia sempevirensin the world. Since this is the tallest tree species, it would seem to follow that this individual is the tallest tree in the world. This seems odd, since the largest trees in some of the bottom land groves are much larger in diameter than any of the trees at Montgomery Woods. It's a tall skinny tree, apparently. The exact individual is a secret; the park Rangers aren't telling which tree it is... something to think about, as you're strolling through this magnificent forest.

This next photo doesn't belong on this page, but I'm putting it here anyway, since it doesn't fit anywhere else either.
