Jackson State Forest

Despite many years of grotesque over-harvesting of timber, there are still a few nice spots in the JDSF. There are even a few big old trees left. Mostly, however, this is industrial forest land, full of stumps and exotic weeds and sediment-filled streams. A movement seems to be gaining momentum for more environmentally sensitive management of the land: preservation of the few old trees, elimination of herbicide spraying, reduction of timber harvest rate to something that might meaningfully be called sustainable, and a general restoration of natural values. Hopefully, the forces of conservation will triumph while there's still something left to conserve.
