W hen I was a wee tyke growing up in Eugene, Oregon, the French Pete area was a great environmental battleground. I remember large crowds in downtown chanting "save French Pete."! The Willamette National Forest was the leading timber producer in the Universe, and French Pete was one of its few uncut areas with marketable timber. The forces of truth and justice won this battle; French Pete is now part of the Three Sisters Wilderness Area. Recently, I finally visited this wonderful area
